PULL is an act of sonic divination, weaving drone-based soundscapes from the environmental and energetic cues of the moment. This collaborative project between cellist Sophia Deutsch and harpist Victoria Carpenter explores the intersection of acoustic expression and technological manipulation, blending cello, harp, and vocals with electronic processing, analog tape delay, and unique looping systems.
Their sound—both expansive and intimate—is shaped by improvisation and intention. Deutsch’s use of harmonics and extended cello techniques intertwines with Carpenter’s textured harp and analog-affected vocals, creating atmospheric and emotionally potent sonic environments. Rather than overpowering the acoustic source, the electronics expand its reach, “leaning into the curve” to reveal interior and immersive sonic worlds.
PULL has recorded at Zoo School Studios (St. Croix Falls, WI) and performed at experimental music events such as Enter the Void at Dollhouse (Minneapolis) and the reverent Music in the Trees event at Belwin Conservancy (Afton, MN). Their work has been described as immersive, cinematic, and transformative—music that “pulls” the listener into altered emotional and energetic states. Each performance is site-specific and responsive, intuitively shaped by the space, audience, and moment.
In addition to being a performance and recording project, PULL is also a filmmaking collaboration. The duo is currently developing a short film to debut in 2026, which will serve as the foundation for a larger, integrated installation and live performance work. This phase marks a continuation of their inquiry into the alchemy of site, sound, and sensation—crafting immersive experiences that dissolve boundaries and deepen embodied listening.
